Antique shops and stores selling unique items dot our area communities. Many of our Amish neighbors sell their own produce or wares. Like other Amish businesses, they are not open Sundays.
Just up the road, within a 10-minute drive, is Tenba Ridge Winery. Tenba has a lovely tasting terrace with a spectacular view. The winery is open May through December and otherwise by appointment. Click here for a video tour of Tenba Ridge.
Another winery within 35 miles is Garvin Heights Vineyards, located on a scenic bluff overlooking Winona, Minn. The winery features cold climate grapes and is open seasonally on the weekends.
If
you want a taste of another regional winery, the Vernon Vineyards Winery located between Westby and Viroqua -- about an hour's drive -- also offers seasonal tasting from May through December.
The winery
overlooks the Bad Axe River and has 32 vineyards with 68 acres of grapes.

Hixton
The village of Hixton, a 20-minute drive from our B&B, has turned itself into an antique mecca, worthwhile of a day’s browsing. Some of the furnishings for our B&B came from the shops in Hixton.
The School House Antique Mall is the former Hixton K-12 school, featuring nearly 200 dealers in booths that fill the classrooms, gymnasium and nooks and crannies of the school. There’s also an open-air flea market next to the school every second weekend, May through October.
Other antique shops in Hixton are The Village Peddler, Miller's Antiques and Cobblestone Cottage, which also features unique gifts and home décor as well as antiques.
Seasonally, Cain's Orchard has blueberry and apple picking.
Black River Falls
The county seat of Jackson County, about 16 miles from our B&B, has several antique and specialty stores. The Merchant General Store is filled with unique old-fashioned items. Next door is an antique store called Stroll Down Memory Lane.
Also in downtown Black River Falls is the Antique Center, a lower-level shop.
A fixture in downtown Black River Falls is Moe’s Hardware, a several-generation store with plenty of old-time service, fully-stocked general merchandise shelves and the area’s largest selection of firearms.
Other downtown stores include Sampson Art Gallery and Glass D’Lights, along with Buzz & Brew, a coffee, wine and beer-making supplies store.
The Sand Creek Brewery, a unique microbrewery located in an historic building with a long brewing history, has a gift shop and sampling room open Monday through Friday. The brewery is open for tours Friday afternoon at 3 and also has Saturday tours in the summer.
Deer Creek Trading Company is located on Hwy. 54 near I-94. Located at N5228 Cloverdale Road west of Black River Falls is Morning Star, which features antiques and unique gifts. Open Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (715) 299-2607
La Crosse
Downtown La Crosse has the three-story Antique Center of La Crosse, located on historic Third Street. Be sure to visit nearby Pearl Street and grab an ice cream cone at the Pearl, an old-fashioned ice cream parlor. Other antique stores are on the city's North Side on Caledonia Street.
Sparta
Sparta is home not only to the Sparta-Elroy Bike Trail, but also has a few antique stores, including Sparta's New and Used, located at Hwy. 27 and I-90, and Jenine's Antiques and Water Street Antiques, both located downtown on Water Street.
